Fit & Measuring
Measure the platform itself, not the old mattress. Old mattresses shrink, settle, and never match the actual frame.
Full edge to edge at the widest point. Round down to the nearest full inch — we build in full inches only.
Head to foot at the longest point. Note anywhere a wall, cabinet, or slide-out cuts into the shape.
RV beds are not standard sizes. An RV Queen is 60×74″ (not 60×80″ like a home queen). An RV Short King is 72×74″ (not 76×80″). Always measure your own platform before ordering — don’t trust floorplans, dealer brochures, or the mattress that came with the RV. If anything looks unusual, call us at (888) 844-7701 and we’ll walk through it with you.
Take the old mattress out and measure the platform (the wood or support surface), not the old mattress. Measure width and length at the widest and longest points. Note any rounded corners (the radius), angle cuts, cabinet notches, or wheel wells. Send us a photo if you’re unsure — we do this every day.
Measure twice. Then send us a photo before you order. Wrong measurements on a custom order are the customer’s responsibility.
We build in full-inch increments only. Go down to 68″, not up to 69″ — especially if you’re fitting into a tight space. There can be up to a 1″ variance from humidity and materials, so going slightly smaller ensures a good fit. You don’t want the mattress compressed into the space; that causes ridges on the sleeping surface.
Yes. Custom builds are our specialty — it’s the majority of what we make. We build:
- Radius (rounded) corners
- Angle-cut corners
- Cabinet and wheel-well notches
- Horizontal hinges for Murphy beds
- Multi-piece splits for folding slide-outs
- Added thickness on one section (for tiered platforms)
Use the Custom Builder or call us with your measurements. We verify every custom order with you before it goes into production.
The safest way to avoid this: call us at (888) 844-7701 before you order. We’ll verify your measurements, match you to the right firmness, and walk through every spec together. It takes about 10 minutes, it’s free, and we do it every day.
Double-check your size and firmness selections at checkout. Every mattress is cut and built to the exact specs you enter — so if something ends up off when it arrives, call us right away at (888) 844-7701 and we’ll talk through what we can do together. The sooner we hear from you, the more options we’ve got.
Yes. Our mattresses flex enough to let you lift the platform and access under-bed storage. If you want even easier access, add a horizontal hinge in the Custom Builder.
Yes. Our mattresses are designed to bend and flex up to 40 degrees without damage — that covers most head-tilting bases in RVs and home adjustable bases. If your base goes beyond 40°, add a hinge so the mattress can fold properly without breaking down.
Comfort & Construction
Montana Hybrid — our top-tier mattress. Supportive pocketed coils with foam on top. 10–11″ thick. Comes in three comfort levels: Firm, Plush (medium — our best-seller), and Soft Pillow Top.
Aspen — all-foam, 10″ thick, medium-soft. Great for side sleepers.
Canyon — all-foam, 8″ thick, medium-firm. Our firmest foam option and the most popular choice for Murphy beds where thickness is restricted.
Dream Bunk — 6″ thick, designed for bunk beds and cab-overs where space is tight.
All four come with a 10-year hassle-free warranty and are rated for home use.
On a 1–10 scale where 10 is a rock:
- Montana Firm ≈ 8/10 — firm but not concrete. Good for back and stomach sleepers.
- Montana Plush ≈ 5–6/10 — right in the middle. Our best-seller, especially for side sleepers who want support without pressure points on hips and shoulders.
- Montana Soft Pillow Top — softest of the line. Sink-in feel with coil support underneath.
If you’re a side sleeper with hip or shoulder pressure, the Plush is usually the sweet spot. Call us and we’ll match you based on sleep position and weight.
If you or your spouse runs warm, go with the Montana Hybrid. It has pocketed coils (air flows through them) plus a cooling cover on top — it’s our coolest-sleeping mattress by design.
The Aspen and Canyon are all-foam construction without a cooling cover, so they sleep a touch warmer than the Montana by comparison. Still fine for most sleepers — just good to know when choosing.
One heads-up: if you add a thick mattress protector, it’ll insulate slightly and reduce the Montana’s cooling effect. A thin, breathable protector is the best of both worlds.
Our foams are CertiPUR-US® certified — tested by independent accredited labs for low VOC emissions, no formaldehyde, no ozone depleters, no heavy metals, and no harmful flame retardants. Built in the USA at our facility.
No. Every mattress is made to order and shipped fresh — ours don’t sit in warehouses or shipping containers for months absorbing packaging smells. Any faint scent from the foam is the same thing you’d notice from a new couch or new car, and it airs out within a day.
After you unwrap and position it: 15–20 minutes. It may take up to 24 hours to fully fill in the corners, but you can sleep on it the first night.
Most people don’t notice it at all. Looking at the top of the mattress, you’d just see a seam — the pillow top layer covers the full surface so your body rests on a continuous sleeping area.
The only time the seam becomes noticeable is if the hinge sits directly under the heaviest part of your body (hips or trunk) AND you’re a highly sensitive sleeper. When we verify your custom order, we’ll ask where the Murphy mechanism needs the fold, then suggest the placement that sleeps best for you.
Custom Builds
Absolutely. We make custom mattresses to your exact measurements. We can add hinges for Murphy beds, cut rounded or angled corners, and even add extra thickness to one section if your platform has different levels.
We need: width, length, hinge location (measured from the foot), and any corner details. We recommend measuring the actual platform, not the mattress currently on it.
Depends on the void space in your Murphy bed when it’s closed. Measure from the platform to whatever stops it from closing — the ceiling, a cabinet, or the wall.
- Montana Hybrid: 10–11″
- Aspen: 10″
- Canyon: 8″
- Dream Bunk: 6″
Most Murphy beds accommodate 8 inches. Measure before ordering — custom orders can’t be returned.
Custom mattresses do not qualify for the 100-night trial, and there are no refunds on custom orders. If a custom mattress doesn’t work out, we offer 50% off the purchase of a replacement mattress.
Standard sizes do qualify for the 100-night trial, so if yours fits a standard size, we recommend going that route to keep the trial option.
That’s exactly why we do a verification call on every custom order before production starts. We’ll walk through your numbers, ask for photos of anything unusual, and confirm every spec with you before we cut a single piece of foam.
If we build it wrong (not matching what you specified), we rebuild it at no charge. If the measurements you provided were wrong and we built to spec, the mattress is yours — custom orders can’t be resold or donated, so they’re non-refundable. In that case we offer 50% off a replacement.
Measure twice. Send photos. Call us with anything unusual — (888) 844-7701.
We’re currently between sheet and pillow production runs — both products will be back in stock soon. In the meantime:
- Standard sizes: most off-the-shelf sheets online fit fine.
- Custom sizes: a king or queen fitted sheet with sheet clips underneath works well to keep them taut on an odd shape.
Call us at (888) 844-7701 when you’re placing your order and we’ll let you know the timeline.
Yes. We can add extra thickness to one section if your platform has different levels — common in travel trailers where the head-of-bed platform sits higher than the foot. Tell us the measurements for each section and we’ll verify with you before production.
Three standard custom corner types:
- Radius — rounded / curved corners. Most common in newer travel trailers and motorhome front caps.
- Angle — diagonal cut corners. Common in bunkhouses, slide-outs, and Airstream front/rear beds.
- Notch — square cutouts. Used where a cabinet, wheel well, or wall intrudes into the platform.
Every corner is built individually — you can have four different corner types on the same mattress if your platform needs it.
For each affected corner, measure X (horizontal distance from the square corner to where the cut starts) and Y (vertical distance). Tap See the Measuring Guide → for visual diagrams.
Horizontal hinge — folds head-to-foot. This is the answer 90% of the time. Use it for:
- Murphy beds (the mattress bends as the bed tilts up into the wall)
- Lifting the foot section to access under-bed storage
- Toy-hauler garage beds that flip against the wall
Vertical hinge — folds left-to-right. Less common. Use it for:
- Side-access storage where the mattress folds toward one wall
- Split platforms where the two halves fold together
Measure the hinge location from the foot edge (for horizontal) or the left edge (for vertical). If your Murphy bed mechanism has a specific bend point, measure to that exact spot.
An unlevel platform is when one section of your RV bed frame sits lower than the other — so a standard-thickness mattress would dip where the platform drops.
This is common in:
- Slide-outs where the head half of the bed sits in the slide and the foot half sits in the fixed body
- Some fifth-wheel front bedrooms where the foot platform is 1–3″ lower
- Older motorhomes with step-up master bedrooms
The fix: we add extra thickness to the section that sits lower so when the mattress is in place, the top surface is flat and level. Measure how much lower the section sits, and enter that as the “thicker” value in the Custom Builder.
Measure with a real tape measure (not a soft cloth measure, not a ruler). Get within a quarter-inch of accurate on each dimension.
We build in full-inch increments, so you’ll round at the end. Rules for rounding:
- Going into a tight space? Round down. A mattress that’s 1/2″ under is fine. One that’s 1/2″ over gets compressed and develops ridges on the sleeping surface.
- Going onto an open platform? Round to the nearest inch. A half-inch gap around the edges won’t be noticeable once sheets are on.
Expect a possible 1″ variance in the finished mattress due to foam expansion and humidity — that’s normal for every foam mattress in existence. We account for it in our cutting.
If you’re unsure, call us at (888) 844-7701 and send photos. We do measurement verification on every custom order before production.
Shipping & Delivery
Everything is built to order at our facility in South Carolina, so lead times depend on what you order.
Typical total: 2–3 weeks from order to delivery.
The Montana Hybrid RV Queen Plush is our best-seller, runs in production most often, and ships faster — typically 5–7 business days. Other firmness levels and sizes typically run 7–10 business days.
Once it ships, you’ll get an email with FedEx tracking. Business days exclude weekends and major holidays.
All orders ship FREE to the continental U.S. Shipping to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada is a flat $149. Shipping fees to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada are non-refundable on returns.
Every mattress ships compressed and rolled in a 16″ × 16″ × 42″ box. It fits through any RV door. Carry the box to your bedroom, cut open the outer plastic (a basic letter opener works great), cut the inner plastic, and it starts expanding immediately. Fully usable in 15–20 minutes.
Double-check your address at checkout and make sure it can accept oversize/heavy packages (most residential addresses are fine — the box is 16″ × 16″ × 42″).
If a package does get deemed undeliverable or refused, we can:
- Re-attempt delivery — we’ll bill you the new shipping cost and send it again.
- Refund the order — you get a refund minus the original shipping cost and a 20% restocking fee.
If anything about your address is unusual (gated community, park model site, forwarding address while traveling), call us at (888) 844-7701 before you order and we’ll help you sort it.
Rates vary by destination and mattress size. Call (888) 844-7701 or email sales@wildernessrvmattress.com for a quote before ordering.
Trial & Returns
You have 100 calendar days from delivery to return your mattress. We ask that you sleep on it for at least 30 nights first — going from a terrible RV mattress to a comfortable one takes some adjustment time for your body.
To initiate: email returns@wildernessrvmattress.com with your order number. Once eligibility is confirmed, we’ll have you find a local charity to donate the mattress to. Once we have proof of donation, you’ll receive a full refund. Someone in need gets a new mattress. Everyone wins.
Important: you must get email approval before making the donation. Mattress must be clean and undamaged.
No. We will never ask you to squeeze the mattress back into that tiny box. Once you open your mattress, just throw the packaging away. For returns, we help you donate it locally. For cancellations of unopened shipments, the customer is responsible for return shipping.
Yes — give us a call at (888) 844-7701. Here’s how the timing works:
- Before production starts — full refund, no questions, no fees.
- In production, not shipped yet — full refund minus a $49 stocking fee (that covers materials already cut).
- Already shipped or delivered — if you’re within 30 days of receipt and the mattress is unopened in its original box, we’ll arrange a return. You cover return shipping; once we receive it back, you get a refund minus the $49 stocking fee.
Custom orders that have begun production are final — once we start cutting to your spec, the materials can’t be reused. For standard sizes you’re still covered by the 100-night trial even after delivery.
Trials and exchanges are limited to 1 use per customer household.
Warranty
All Wilderness RV mattresses come with a full 10-year hassle-free warranty that covers:
- Any manufacturing defects
- Body impressions or sagging that measure 1.5″ or more
The tag sewn in at the head of the mattress must remain intact or the warranty is void.
Our pillow comes with a 3-year full-replacement warranty covering any defects in the material. Our mattress topper comes with a 3-year warranty.
Email returns@w-rv.com with:
- Your original order number
- A description of the issue
- Well-lit photos showing the problem
We respond within 3–5 business days. If approved, repair or replacement typically takes 5 business days after approval.
The warranty applies to the original purchaser only — it doesn’t transfer by gift, resale, or donation. If you’re picking up a used Wilderness mattress from someone else, give us a call anyway — we can still help you troubleshoot issues, we just can’t cover warranty work.
- Use a stable, level support system (no unsupported slats)
- Rotate the mattress 180° every 3–6 months
- Use a mattress protector — moisture damage voids the warranty
- Lift (don’t drag or fold) when moving it
- Spot clean only — no harsh chemicals or dry cleaning
- Keep the head-of-mattress tag intact
Pricing & Discounts
Yes, we offer a military discount. It can be applied in addition to any current sale pricing. Call us at (888) 844-7701 to apply it to your order. Thank you for your service.
Our mattresses are CertiPUR-US® certified, rated for home use, and come with a 10-year warranty. The mattresses that come with RVs are typically 4–6″ cheap foam that breaks down within a year or two of real use.
Our Canyon starts around $400 for an RV Queen. Most customers tell us it’s the best investment they’ve made in their RV — you actually look forward to sleeping in your rig instead of dreading it.
Check the promo bar at the top of every page for the current sale — that’s always the active offer. If the timing matters for your trip, call us and we’ll let you know what’s running and what’s coming up.
About WRV
We’re a family-owned and operated business. We’ve been avid RVers our whole life and have over 15 years of experience in the mattress industry. It started when we replaced the crappy mattress that came with our RV. That led to helping our friends replace theirs, then their friends, and so on.
Once we saw how few real RV-specific options existed, we set out to build great-quality mattresses designed around the way RVers actually use them — keeping cost, weight, and durability in mind.
Every mattress is handcrafted in the USA at our facility. Every single one. Read the full story →
